Tough Start to Round Two

NobleKing Midget 2 took a short bench into game 1 of round 2. They were facing Lefroy, first place in the regular season.

NobleKing held out against the Lefroy onslaught for some time, and had some chances of their own. But Lefroy is a very strong team, and played disciplined hockey. The Knights did not play well positionally, and had some penalty trouble. Neither helped them against Lefroy, and the team took a beating. NobleKing will have to play a much stronger second game if they hope to have an extended series.

Round 1, Game 4 - Thrilling 4-3 Win to Stay Alive!

This game was a thriller. NobleKing needed to win in order to stay alive in the series.

Evan White stepped up, scoring three goals. With the game tied and NobleKing's fate on the line, Tyler Kozak drifted a shot past the Thornton netminder with only twenty-two seconds left in regulation, giving NobleKing the win, and tying the series.

Round 1, Game 3 - 3-1 Win for Thornton

NobleKing 2 lost 3-1 to Thornton in the first of two back to back games last weekend. The team had a very short bench. This left them trailing the best of five series two games to one, and on the brink of elimination.

NobleKing Midget 2 Wins Grafton Tournament Championship

NobleKing’s Midget 2 Local League Hockey team recently won the Championship at a tournament held in Grafton, Ontario.

NobleKing’s first opponent was Mississauga. The Knights jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, extending their lead to 7-0 by the end of the second frame. The final score was 8-0 for the Knights.

Game two saw NobleKing meeting Napanee. The Knights got off to a quick start in this game, scoring only 34 seconds into the first period. Although Napanee had originally looked like a dangerous opponent, NobleKing’s offensive pressure was too much for them to handle. NobleKing’s goal scoring was spread across all three periods in the penalty filled affair, and the final score was 6-0 for NobleKing.

The Championship Finals saw NobleKing matched against Rice Lake – always a tough opponent. A number of players on the Knight team played several years ago in a Bantam-level tournament that was halted in the midst of a snowstorm and blackout. Rice Lake was clearly the dominant team in that tournament, and would no doubt put up a battle in the finals in Grafton.

NobleKing scored late in the first to take a 1-0 lead. The teams traded chances through the remainder of the period, but there was no further scoring. The Knights extended their lead to 2-0 midway through the second frame, but the game could still have gone either way. An insurance goal late in the second period seemed to give NobleKing some breathing room. Rice Lake made it interesting by scoring early in the third period, but the Knights stepped up their two-way play and held on to win the Championship game 3-1.

Netminders Jackson Morgis and Curtis Kozak split the two shutouts. The two have backstopped Midget 2 to a 10-2-1 record in the second half of the Simcoe Region regular season. NobleKing’s offense was very strong in the tournament games, and the defense gave up only a single goal in three games.

NobleKing Midget 2 finished sixth in the sixteen team Simcoe Region Local League Midget division, and they are looking forward to the playoffs.

8-0 Win Against Bradford #2

NobleKing Midget 2 wrapped up their regular season campaign with a decisive win over Bradford #2. This finished a strong second half of the season, where the team had a 10-2-1 record. This managed to get them to sixth place in a sixteen team division. Playoffs will be scheduled in the next day or two, but regardless of who we meet, we'll have our work cut out for us!
